Impact of GST on Real Estate

Image
Home Buyers are certainly waiting for GST rollout from July 1. Experts believe that buyers will benefit if they buy houses in projects launched post July 1. It will be so even after a rise in service tax of 4.5% to GST of 12%. This is because a number of hidden and cascading will be removed under GST. Developers will also get several tax credits under GST. But these tax credits will not be applicable to projects that are under-construction, nearing completion or ones that are ready. “The heavily taxed real estate sector welcomes a single stable 12% GST rate, inclusive of the value of land and with full input tax credits,” said Rajeev Talwar, CEO, DLF and chairman of National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO). Source - Hindustan Times Government has also proposed anti-profiteering measures to which will pass on tax credit benefits to consumers.

IIT Kharagpur to include Vastu in Architectural Syllabus

IIT Kharagpur believes that the ancient Indian architecture philosophy of Vastu Shastra must be taught to architecture students to make them more "well-rounded." The institute recently conducted a workshop on the subject and plans to include an introductory course for first and second year undergraduate students, and a more exhaustive course for post-graduate and research students. IIT faculty members say that there is no reason why Indian architecture students shouldn't know ancient Indian architectural traditions, and believe that Vastu concepts aren't religious and are instead based on science. Vastu principles can be traced back to the Vedic period, say historians. "Times are changing and across the globe there is a renewed interest in ancient Indian knowledge. So, it is natural that we will tweak our syllabus to include Vastu in architecture and infrastructure classes," Joy Sen, a faculty member of the architecture department, told TOI. Source : huf...

A perfect place to sit when you shit!

Image
So what do you do when the penthouse atop the 15 story building you're renovating has a small unused space that was originally constructed as a shaft for a second elevator? Well, if you're the architects at Hernandez Silva, you turn it into a glass-floored bathroom that would give professional Hollywood stuntpersons second thoughts about using. While the floor is presumably thick enough to support even the heaviest of patrons, it looks like it's been further reinforced with metal crossbeams. Or at the least, they're there to give the illusion it's been strengthened. But we think we'll just hold it till we get home, thanks.

Urban Development to snatch Architecture Education from HRD.

Image
The NDA government is set shift Architecture education from Human Resources Development (HRD) Ministry’s purview to the Urban Development Ministry. HRD Ministry had already opposed the proposal in a meeting held at the Cabinet Secretariat last month. The move was communicated by the Cabinet Secretary’s office to the two ministries. The change will be formally notified through an amendment to the Allocation of Business Rules 1961, which enlists responsibilities of each ministry under the Union government. The Architects Act, 1972 under the Department Of Higher Education in the AOB rules will be deleted through a gazette notification, sources said. This law provides for registration of architects, maintaining standards of architectural education, recognition of qualifications and standards of practice to be complied with by practising architects. With the transfer of the Architects Act, HRD Ministry will no longer be in-charge of regulating architectural education through the Coun...

Amazon's new building to be an Urban-Treehouse.

Image
The design proposal for Amazon’s newest building will be presented at a Downtown Design Review meeting. The , April 4, the design proposal for Amazon’s newest building is scheduled to be presented at a Downtown Design Review meeting. The 17-story, 405,000-sf building , which is being designed by Graphite Design Group, will sit at the site of a former hotel at 2205 Seventh Avenue in Seattle. According to Curbed Seattle, documents submitted by the architect for review give three options for building massing, with one of those options being preferred over the rest. The preferred option has a recessed center bay that shows the building’s internal stair structure. On either side of the recessed bay are stacked, protruding slabs of floors that zigzag their way up the building. The documents refer to this design as an ‘urban treehouse.” Other building massing options include a version that again utilizes a recessed bay to show the internal stair structure, but instead of c...

Can you hang a building from an asteroid?

Image
Following last week's healthy debate around a conceptual looping skyscraper in New York, a newly proposed tower that would hang from an asteroid drew a similar response from readers, which is summarised in our latest comments update. Down to earth: Clouds Architecture Office suggested suspending the Analemma Tower, which would be the world's tallest skyscraper, from an asteroid to get around terrestrial height restrictions. "What's architecture without utopia?" asked Eugenio Laponte, defending the concept. Some readers, such as Atlas, were completely dismissive of the extreme plan: "What a complete waste of time." Mies van der Float felt the office deserved praise for their originality: "I'd like to have a pint in this tower someday and toast these blokes for daring to be visionary." One reader suggested the architects may be better off going back to school: .

Best Works of Renzo Piano

Image
Centre Georges Pompidou Built in Paris between 1971 and 1977, the Pompidou Center is the proud home to a public library, the largest modern art museum in Europe (the Musée National d’Art Moderne), and a top-of-the-league music and acoustics study center. Piano built the structure as an over-the-top ode to high-tech architecture in which he strives to reveal a building’s inner workings and technological marvels that typically remain hidden beneath its surface. Parco della Musica Considered one of the most-visited music facilities in the world, Rome’s Parco della Musica was designed by Piano on the same grounds of the 1960 Summer Olympic Games. The facilities comprise three massive dome-like structures that hold three separate concert halls. One unique note about the construction: in forging new ground, Piano and co found remains of the old. The construction process unearthed an ancient Italian villa that Renzo Piano decided to include in his designs. The Shar...

Ar. Achyut Prakash Kanvinde

From 1916 to 2002. Kanvinde    plays with space and forms. His designs are slender, balanced, proportionate, neat and well crafted.     The building is important but most important is the gate of the user. Example is “Isckon   Temple”.   He gave much    more importance to the natural light. He gave such a form to the building that it can solve the problem of ventilation as well as excessive heat . He believed in Vernacular Architecture. He believed    that the image should be such that can set the mood and interest for which the building stands for. Both inherent    values and historical influences contributed towards good architecture. An art can be to nourish the senses. Art is purely an aesthetic exercise. He believed    that a grid of columns    forming a matrix giving structural   and spatial aspect would turn a   design to more sophisticated and   faceted. He treated his bui...

Image
Tadao Ando's Only UK project,  the ‘Japanese Pavilion’ at  Piccadilly Gardens  in  Manchester is scheduled to be demolished as apart of € 10m redesigning of the park and plaza. Built in 2002the pavilion takes the form of a long, gray concrete wall along the park’s southwestern edge, which critics have argued divide the public space, describing the design as “bleak and depressing” and comparing it to the Berlin Wall. The plans follow several years of public calls to reinvasion the gardens. Six months ago, a 20,000-signature petition to knock down the wall was presented to the   Manchester   city council. In 2013, Ando himself admitted that the project could use some livening up,   suggesting covering the structure in greenery .

Antoni Gaudí - Works and Biography

Image
Antoni Gaudí i Cornet  ( 25 June 1852 – 10 June 1926) A   Spanish   Catalan   architect from   Reus   and the best known practitioner of   Catalan Modernism . Gaudí's works reflects an individualized and distinctive style. Most are located in   Barcelona , including his   magnum opus , the   Sagrada Família . Gaudi’s style is characterized by freedom of form, voluptuous colour and texture, and organic unity. He worked almost entirely in or near   Barcelona . Much of his career was occupied with the construction of the Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family (Sagrada Família), which was unfinished at his death in 1926. The architectural work of Gaudí is remarkable for its range of forms, textures, and polychromy and for the free, expressive way in which these elements of his   art   seem to be composed. The complex geometries of a Gaudí   building   so coincide with its architectural structure that the w...

Jeddah Tower: The Soon-to-be Tallest Building in the World

Image
Jeddah Tower , a soon-to-be tallest building in world, leaving behind the  2,722 ft tall Burj Khalifa. The tower, being constructed in  Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, will stand at least 3,280 feet tall and is designed by  Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture  of Chicago .It was supposed to be a mile tall i.e. 1.6km but due to geological limits will not be possible, Now it is said to be constructed about a km tall which if achieved will be the first building to reach this mark. 1.  The structure  will be home to the world’s highest observatory. It will also have a separate, 98-foot-diameter outdoor balcony, which was originally intended to be a helipad. 2.  The building is so big that they were unable to show it realistically in one rendering. Only elevations and birds-eye views can contain the entire project. Imagine those construction drawings. 3.  Foundation piles are about 10 feet in diameter ( that's my room size)  ...
